About Us

Professional Instructor

Charlie Cook has been teaching firearms since 2007. He spent time donating time teaching women, students, and politicians. After instructing at a local shooting school, he decided to break out and start Personal Shooting Instruction to teach classes for himself. Charlie has been an instrumental music teacher for over 25 years and getting into teaching firearms makes sense!

NRA Certified Instructor

Charlie holds several NRA disciplines including Home Firearm Safety, Basics of Pistol Shooting, Basic Rifle, Basic Shotgun, Personal Protection Inside The Home, and Refuse To Be A Victim.

USCCA Certified Instructor

The United States Concealed Carry Association  is another great place to get training. They've got lots of informative books.  We offer several of the "mini courses' which are port of the Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals.

Other Courses

Charlie is also a SABRE Pepper Spray Instructor and Utah BCI Instructor. Pepper spray is a great option when you're in a 'non-permissive' area, like where you work.  The Utah Permit is valid in 30 states for non-Utah residents.

We also offer live fire courses. If you've bought a gun and want to learn how to use it safety, please reach out and set up a private one on one lesson.

More Information

Firearm Identification vs License To Carry

In Massachusetts, there are 2 types of firearm licenses: the Firearm Identification card (FID) and the License To Carry (LTC).

With the FID, someone can possess non-large capacity rifles and shotguns.

With the LTC, someone can possess non-large capacity AND large capacity rifles, shotguns, and handguns.

The FID can be obtained from 15-17 years old with a parent's permission.

The FID can be obtained from 18-20 years old without parent's permission.

The LTC can be obtained for anyone over 21.

Background checks are done with your local police and with the state police.

Costs

The FID is $25 if the applicant is less than 18 years old.

The FID is $100 if the applicant is over 18 years old.

The LTC is $100.

Both the FID & LTC are valid for 6 years.

Live Fire Session

Once you've obtained your FID/LTC, you should get some live fire training to learn how to operate your firearm and learn to use it safely.  I do hold live fire sessions.
